Destiny 2 Raid Boss Beaten With Only Arc Soul Damage

Destiny 2 Raid Boss Beaten With Only Arc Soul Damage

When it comes to Destiny 2 players challenging themselves to overcome parts of the game in interesting ways, it can range from the ultra-difficult to the plain fun. This is the latter. A raid team was able to beat Calus, the final boss of the Leviathan raid without firing a shot and using only Arc Soul damage.

The team, made up of players including Gladd and Indica from Clan Redeem, used their weapons for every other part of the fight but when damaging Calus. For this challenge, only Arc Souls, floating orbs that activate when standing in a Stormcaller Warlock’s Rift, can do damage to Calus. Here’s the full run, which took five damage phases to complete.

While many players have mastered one-phasing Calus with all of the tools at their disposal, this method switches things up and goes at a slower pace. It took time to get perfect, but the team did it, and the Arc Souls were even powerful enough to take down Calus during the Last Stand portion of the encounter. In fact, using Arc Souls makes the Last Stand a little easier, since Healing Rifts will prevent him from draining the team’s health so quickly.

The team, composed of multiple Warlocks placing both Healing and Empowering Rifts, noticed a few things while working out this method, which could be helpful for others who might want to try it. First, every player needs to be standing on the plate before the rift is placed. The team found that many of them were not receiving damage numbers if the Rift was placed before they were in position.

Second, once the Arc Soul is activated, they did not have to remain on a plate. Arc Soul continues to do damage keeping the damage buff against Calus, even without standing on a plate. The catch is that another Warlock has to throw down another Rift and extend the Arc Soul buff before the current timer runs out.

It’s not a legitimate or a highly-effective method to taking down Leviathan’s final boss, but it sure is an interesting challenge and fun to watch. And when all of the focus is on killing Calus fast or with fewer players, this is something a little different.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
