Like many other Bethesda RPGs, Fallout 4 has truly managed to capture the imagination of the modding community. However, not every content creator is happy working on entirely new items for the title, instead deciding to bring other franchises into Fallout itself. Most recently, one modder has decided that Geralt’s gear from The Witcher 3 should be available within the post-apocalyptic RPG.
This new fan-made Fallout 4 content, from modder renn, allows players to use Geralt’s prologue gear whilst out exploring the wasteland of the Commonwealth. Adding a small taste of fantasy to the retrofuturistic setting of the Fallout series, fans of the Witcher franchise now have a little bit of Geralt to turn to if they ever feel the need to see how the monster hunter fares against radscorpions and deathclaws. Those interested in checking out the mod can do so over at Nexus Mods.
The modded content itself consists of the Witcher Viper Armor, Geralt’s standard outfit, and the Witcher Wolf Mask as wearable items – although the player character’s Pip-Boy will still be proudly on display. Meanwhile, Geralt’s crossbow is available as a modded weapon, acting as a pistol with perks such as Gunslinger. All items are ready to be crafted at one of the game’s chemistry stations.
The quality of the content looks highly impressive, and there’s a very good reason for that. As it turns out, the modder used CD Projekt RED’s own models and textures from The Witcher 3 in order to complete this mod. According to the mod’s page, other creators are also able to modify and redistribute the content, as long as CD Projekt RED has given permission.
This is far from the first time that another franchise has turned up within the confines of Fallout 4. Recently, another mod allowed users to change the faithful Dogmeat into the white wolf Amaterasu from Okami via a new skin. Meanwhile, another mod introduced character models from Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain.
Not all the mods created for Fallout 4 have been entirely focused around surface-level changes, however. Indeed, some gamers have tried to use the title’s mod capabilities to improve the overall quality and entertainment value of Fallout 4, taking important steps such as allowing the player character to keep track of their companions through the use of the Pip-Boy. The modding community has certainly stepped up to the plate to add plenty of content for the PC version of the game, and although PS4 and Xbox One players are still waiting on more news regarding console capability, when the time comes it will hopefully improve the fun factor across the board.
