The recent Star Wars Battlefront 2 story trailer teased fans on what to expect from the game’s single-player campaign and the missions that Iden Versio will embark on. But exactly how long will it take players to complete that campaign in its entirety?
One of the game’s development teams, Motive Studios, has now answered that very question. In a new interview, Motive’s studio producer David Robillard confirmed that the Star Wars Battlefront 2 campaign will last “around 5-7, maybe 8 hours is probably a good amount of time.” Robillard said that the development team “wanted to stay very driven towards the Star Wars fantasy that the players are going to experience and not have it be drawn out.”
Game Rant’s recent hands-on with Battlefront 2‘s story confirmed that the single-player content has not just been created as an ‘afterthought’ and that much care and consideration has been put into it. For the many fans who demanded a story campaign for the sequel – including Star Wars actor, John Boyega – this will be delightful news. They asked, and according to this section of the game previewed just a month out from its full release, Motive and the rest of the Star Wars Battlefront 2 team has delivered.
But some may be disappointed that the story campaign isn’t any longer. Although Star Wars Battlefront 2‘s multiplayer gameplay is certainly something that many fans are looking forward to (loot box controversy aside), many will have hoped that the single-player content would be more substantial. Battlefront 2‘s story is canon within the Star Wars universe, after all, and fans would relish any chance to learn more about the fantastical sci-fi universe.
This is especially the case as it seems that EA’s other major Star Wars project is no longer focused on its story. The publisher announced this week that the game, which had been envisioned as a linear story adventure, would be transformed into something that offers greater player agency. That game may well offer plenty of enjoyable narrative moments but it won’t be the same as a full narrative experience.
As it stands, Star Wars Battlefront 2 may be the only EA Star Wars game with a traditional story campaign and so fans would want to spend as much time in that as they possibly can. It’s understandable if fans are disappointed it’s not any longer, but the game could just prove to just as sweet, even if it is a little shorter than expected.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 releases on November 17, 2017, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
