While many Pokemon GO players are still waiting to find out how developer Niantic plans to celebrate the game’s one year anniversary, rumors of a new event have surfaced. There’s no way to vet the legitimacy of the rumor, but if true Pokemon GO players could see an electric type event launch before the end of July.
The supposed leak comes from TeamShuckle, who have an alleged announcement in their possession. The announcement mentions some facts about the atmosphere implying there is an increase in electric activity, before announcing the next Electric Type event for Pokemon GO.
According to the announcement, the Electric Type event will run from July 25th to August 1st. Most Pokemon events tend to run for a week so it’s hard to doubt the legitimacy of the dates.
Moreover, the announcement lists many of the Electric Pokemon that will spawn in greater numbers during the event, pocket monsters like Pikachu, Magnemite, and Voltorb. Eggs will also be more likely to spawn Electric Type Pokemon as well, so players should see greater odds of hatching a Pichu or Elekid.
Of course, this is all assuming that the announcement is legitimate and not some type of fake meant to trick the Pokemon GO community. Unfortunately, things could go either way this one.
On the one hand, the rumors of a rare Pikachu (or unique Pikachu) variant would align with an Electric Type event, which would surely put the iconic Pokemon character at its forefront. Electric Type Pokemon are also a little harder to find in the mobile game, so offering an event focused on that type would generate some interest from players.
At the same time, it’s hard to imagine that Pokemon GO would use its anniversary month to host an Electric Type event rather than something more unique. There have been rumors that a Legendary Pokemon event or a new tier for Raid Battles would be coming this month, both of which sound like better fits for a Birthday celebration.
Whatever is planned for Pokemon GO’s Anniversary is likely to be revealed at Pokemon GO Fest on July 22nd. There, Niantic is expected to give attendees a unique experience filled with themed activities while also teasing the future of the mobile game. That might be an Electric Type event or it might be something completely different, but the hope is that it will be big.
Pokemon GO is out now for iOS and Android.
