Finally, eight months after releasing alongside Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, it seems gamers will finally get a chance to purchase Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered as a standalone title. The news comes by way of Amazon Japan, which shared a listing for Modern Warfare Remastered as a standalone title set to release June 20th.
The leaked info seems to be a confirmation of the rumor that circulated last month, when GameFly listed the game as a standalone rental coming in June. Considering that the dates of the two leaks line up, it stands to reason that this is looking like a very plausible release plan from Activision.
Granted, Activision still needs to confirm these rumors, which would make many gamers happy since the publisher claimed late last year that the game wouldn’t see a standalone release. That said, many gamers expected it to reach that point once it made financial sense to Activision.
At the moment, the only way to get a copy of Modern Warfare Remastered is to pick up a Digital Deluxe, Legacy, Legacy Pro, or Legacy and Destiny Bundle edition of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. For those who don’t know, those editions start at $80 and work up to $130.
It’s not surprising to see Activision finally bend on its claim that Modern Warfare Remastered wouldn’t be available by itself. With Call of Duty: WW2 fast approaching, gamer attention will soon be off Modern Warfare Remastered and onto the newest offering in the Call of Duty franchise. Additionally, many have speculated that Activision is planning to tack on Modern Warfare 2 Remastered with Call of Duty: WW2. If that’s the case, it seems an appropriate time to sell as many copies of Modern Warfare Remastered now before two new titles become available.
At the moment, Modern Warfare Remastered is priced at 7,776 Yen on Amazon Japan, which translates to $70 USD. However, many gamers are speculating (and hoping) that when it’s sold in the US, the game will land somewhere in the $40 or less range.
Whatever the price, there’s little doubt the game will sell well, considering the high demand gamers have had for the title since it released. It’ll be interesting to see how it shapes up against other major titles set to launch this next month.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is currently rumored to release as a standalone title on June 20, 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
