Early yesterday, a Canadian gamer discovered that Destiny 2 pre-order purchases through Amazon wouldn’t give access to the game’s upcoming beta. Fortunately, after sharing the situation on Reddit, Bungie’s community developer, David “DeeJ” Dague responded saying the issue will be resolved shortly for all Destiny 2 preorders.
Originally, it looked as if Amazon wouldn’t provide the gamer with a beta code with the pre-order since the beta codes were only available for Amazon.com orders, not Amazon.ca. It seems that was a misunderstanding on the part of the Amazon rep, and likely a slight glitch in the system between Bungie and Amazon.
There’s no word yet on when the beta will go live for Destiny 2, but it’s likely it won’t be available until just before the official launch in September. In fact, considering most betas usually launch within a month or two of a game’s release date, gamers can expect to try out the Destiny sequel in late July or sometime in August.
With the beta a ways away, gamers will have plenty of time to build hype and excitement for the game. The Collector’s Edition recently became available for pre-order, along with the standard version of the game. And according to GameStop, gamers are already pre-ordering the game like crazy.
It will be interesting to see how the pre-orders shape up after the first official gameplay is shared in May. Bungie is planning a livestream where it will share some snippets of gameplay for gamers to enjoy. It’s likely the developer will also shared additional details and gameplay during this year’s E3 event.
With major gameplay changes set for Destiny 2, there’s a lot riding on how well the game presents during the May livestream, as well as the success of the beta. Despite its issues, Destiny has become one of the most successful console games of all time, so there are high expectations for the sequel.
Fortunately, Destiny 2 is off to a good start with community developer DeeJ looking out for those gamers who are planning to participate in the game’s beta. Hopefully no other issues crop up before then.
Destiny 2 is set to release on September 8, 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
