Battlefield 1: DICE Details Future DLC and Update Plans

DICE has published a news story titled “The Road Ahead For Battlefield 1,” which discusses a shift to monthly updates rather than seasonal and teases the In The Name Of The Tsar expansion. Battlefield 1 is coming off of the launch of its first of four major expansions, They Shall Not Pass, which launched mid-March. Next up is the multiplayer shooter’s Spring Update, featuring the long-awaited Platoon system. But the Spring Update’s just the start.

Starting with the Spring Update, Battlefield 1 will shift away from a seasonal update system to a monthly one. The implication is that the Spring Update will launch in April, followed by the first monthly update being the May Update. Spring focuses on Platoons, a clan system for in-game mini-communities, with ranks, tags, and emblems. DICE did talk about what May will focus on, too, which will be quality of life changes. That includes “streamlining the flow into matches” and balance fixes.

In The Name Of The Tsar, Battlefield 1‘s second major expansion, was also discussed and teased. Obviously, it will include new maps, weapons, vehicles, and game modes. DICE doesn’t have any specific details to share with regards to specific content. However, they were very willing to discuss the setting from which the expansion’s content will be adopted:

“In The Name Of The Tsar will bring you to the Eastern Front, where you will fight alongside the Russian army and witness the brutality of combat and the bitter cold of the Russian winters, as seen in the concept exploration images in this post. Prepare yourself for all new tactics employed by the Russian army. Though the frost is cold, the steel is colder.”

Let’s hope there are no Siege of Przemyśl maps, as interesting as a 133-day siege in-game might be.

Additionally, three concept images tied to the In The Name Of The Tsar expansion were shared as part of the post. Like previous Battlefield 1 teasers, each of the images is likely tied to a central facet of a map. The first image shows a convoy, a truck guarded by horsemen while fighter planes scream by overhead. The second image shows a speed boat storming up-river while hidden long-rage artillery targets a larger ship in the distance. And the third is a well-armored, turreted train that likely needs to be bombed. And all three maps feature endless snow. This is the Eastern Front, after all.

Battlefield 1 is currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
